Takeaway Beef Ho Fun
This recipe has been passed down from my iconic mum’s Chinese takeaway so you know it’s a goodie. Think tender stir-fried beef, soft rice noodles and an addictive garlicky sauce.

can we use a non alcoholic ingredient instead of shaoxing wine? what would it be? or does it have to include alcohol. Asking for a halal diet

Hi Sabah, thanks for reaching out! Just leave out the shaoxing wine to keep things alcohol free.

Delicious and authentic. I did use a bit less soy sauce and no msg. Don't like bean sprouts so put in a yellow pepper instead. The beef is really tender

When do you return the beef to the pan to finish cooking?

Thanks for your feedback Aisling! You return the beef to the pan just after the noodles, choy sum and sauce (Step 7). We've edited the recipe to make this clear

Incredibly disappointing recipe. The amount of soy sauce and salt made the food almost inedible. Did someone even check the measurements for the stir-fry sauce?.. The first Mob flop for me

What can we replace the Shaoxing wine with if not available?

Hey Dunia – you can use dry sherry, mirin or sake instead!
