10 Best Kitchen Tools Under £10
I am not a wealthy man. I spend far too much of my money eating out and, as a result, I don’t have a huge amount of expendable income to spend on things like kitchen tools. Or rent. That’s why I’ve previously rounded up some of the best kitchen tools under £5 and why I’m currently going to point you in the direction of 10 of the best kitchen tools under £10.
I’m not saying that these are the tools you necessarily need in your kitchen but they will make your life a whole lot easier and your cooking experiences a lot more enjoyable. Having a mezzaluna chopper in your arsenal is a big flex and guaranteed to impress anyone that comes round to your next dinner party.
Even if you think you’ve already amassed all of your favourite kitchen tools, I’d take a look at this list and see if there’s anything that takes your fancy. They are, after all, all affordable and can be yours for a tenner. In fact, you could buy everything on this list of the best kitchen tools under £10 and you’d still only have spent £100 maximum. I’d call that a worthy investment considering how much cool stuff is out there.
Mezzaluna Chopper

Ever wondered how you can chop your herbs as finely as they do in fancy restaurants without giving yourself repetitive strain injury? This mezzaluna chopper is the answer to your prayers. It’s basically a stainless steel 6-inch blade with two handles on each side that lets you rock the knife from side to side like a seesaw. A seesaw capable of decimating ginger, garlic cloves, and anything else in its wake.

Stainless Steel Colander

A good colander is honestly one of the most essential bits of kitchen kit out there. This sizeable stainless steel colander from IKEA is super durable and capable of enduring some serious wear and tear. It’s also large enough to suit whatever outrageous size salad (or portion of pasta) that you’re eating. It’s so deep that nothing will fall out of this and get lost in the sink. A worthy investment for a tenner.

AnySharp Knife Sharpener

Having a good value kitchen knife is one thing but making sure that your knives remain sharp is a completely different ballpark. This nifty little knife sharpener from AnySharp can suction cup to your counter and provide you with a quick and easy way to ensure all of your knives stay razor-sharp. It even sharpens serrated knives. Get one of these and you won’t stop using it. It’s honestly pretty addictive.

Victorinox Tomato Knife

This Victorinox tomato knife comes highly recommended by our very own Sophie Wyburd. It’s light, ergonomic, and capable of cutting through a hell of a lot more than Heritage toms. A real jack of all trades. If you haven’t got one of these stashed away in your kitchen draw, you’re really missing out.

Marble Pestle & Mortar

Quite a few of our recipes here at MOB Kitchen call for a pestle and mortar. It’s an essential bit of kit for making a punchy aioli, homemade pesto or grinding spices for a salsa. While it might seem like one of those aspirational bits of kitchen equipment, a marble pestle and mortar from Procook will only cost you a tenner. That’s a bargain if I’ve ever seen one.

Joseph Joseph Grip Grater

It’s mad how much of a difference having a good grater in the kitchen can make. Genuinely. This bright yellow Joseph Joseph grater doesn’t just look fun but it also does the absolute business at coarsely grating everything from vegetables to cheddar cheese. Its non-slip tip also reduces the chance of you grating off your own fingers. Always a bonus.

Measuring Glass

This Borough Kitchen measuring glass does not fuck about. You name the unit of measurement and this bad boy will have it tattooed on its easy-to-read exterior. It’s like Memento if he couldn’t remember the recipe for a devil’s food cake. Ounces, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres – this measuring glass has got it all, MOB.

Meat Thermometer

Sexy? No. Essential for making sure you don’t serve up a bone-dry roast beef? Absolutely. This handy meat thermometer is capable of measuring the internal temperature of your meat as well as the external temperature of your oven at the same time. The latter might not sound all that useful until you realise your oven has been off by about 20 degrees all these years. This might cost slightly over a tenner but that knowledge, my friend, is priceless.

Vogue Spider 5”

Cooking with hot oil is dangerous! Fishing out deep-fried falafel with a dessert spoon is dangerous! Prevent scalding yourself when deep-frying by investing a small amount of money into getting yourself a nifty Vogue spider. Not only does it look very professional but it means you have an excuse to make jokes about having a spider in the kitchen. An underrated perk of any kitchen tool.
